Congratulation to 7th Graders Kaitlyn Rogers, Josh Martinez, and Alex Foust who participated in the Calumet Region Science Fair this weekend.
Kaitlyn’s Experiment: How does the amount of baking powder in a cupcake recipe affect the mass of the cupcake? Conclusion…Cupcakes without baking powder weighed the most and did not rise. Cupcakes with increased baking powder weighed the least and were more fluffy.
She received a silver medal and a Calumet Region Science Fair Certificate
Alex’s Experiment: Studying Bernoulli’s Principle of speed and pressure; Alex tested, “How does wind speed affect how fast a pair side by side cans collide?” Conclusion…Increased wind speed (velocity) created an area of low pressure causing the cans to collide into each other instead of pushing apart.
Alex received a bronze medal and a Calumet Region Science Fair Certificate.
Josh’s Experiment: “How does the condition of the tennis ball affect its bounce ability?” Josh compared the bounce height of a new tennis ball to an old, wet and a frozen tennis ball. Josh concluded that in a new tennis ball the natural rubber is highly elastic. With age and physical wearing down the rubber compound deforms and decomposes causing the tennis ball to reduce its bounce ability. Josh received a Calumet Region Science Fair Certificate.
