HAST uses approved educational technology services and third-party service providers to support instruction, assessment, communication, student information management, device management, safety, and school operations.

Under FERPA, HAST may disclose personally identifiable information from education records without prior written consent to school officials with legitimate educational interests. A school official may include a contractor, consultant, volunteer, or other third-party service provider that performs an institutional service or function for which HAST would otherwise use its own employees, provided the provider is under HAST’s direct control regarding the use and maintenance of personally identifiable information from education records and uses the information only for authorized school purposes.

This type of disclosure is separate from directory information. Directory information is limited information that may be released under HAST’s Directory Information Notice unless a parent or eligible student opts out. Approved educational service providers generally receive student information under FERPA’s school official exception, not because the information has been designated as directory information. HAST reviews educational technology services and works to maintain appropriate privacy protections. HAST is participating in Access 4 Learning and the Student Data Privacy Consortium process and will use the National Data Privacy Agreement, including Indiana-specific terms, when available and appropriate.

Approved Educational Technology Services and Privacy Notices

The following list includes educational technology services and third-party providers approved or available for use at HAST. Some services are used schoolwide, while others may be used only by specific grade levels, courses, programs, or teachers. Use may vary from year to year based on instructional needs, curriculum, licensing, and course offerings.

Student Information System – Demographic information, all student records including grades and attendance.

School Wide Communication System – Demographic information, all student and parent contact information.

Mobile Device Management – Basic information such as name, class information, and IP adddress of School owned devices.

Safety Console – Filter all student web traffic, emails, Google documents. This is a requirement per the Children’s Information Protection Act. 24 hour safety console. Student name, grade, address, phone, parent information is shared.

School Wide Use – These accounts include username, password, and grade level. No other information such as address or data of birth is provided.

Curriculum Use – The following websites and apps may use information such as username, password, grade level, and/or STN. Some of these apps do not use anything except for email.
