Welcome to Hammond Academy of Science and Technology. As we enter our fourth year, we welcome new staff, new students, and new parents to the HAST community. The school seems to be in perpetual motion, as we had over 100 students enrolled in courses this summer. Staff new and old are eager to open our doors to another wonderful year. We are all particularly excited about our first high school graduation ceremony on June 5, 2013.
We continue to be in growth mode. This year, HAST will have nearly 575 students in attendance, grades 6 through 12. New staff to date include Mr Mahdee Iqbal as Business Manager, Mr Cody Tatro joins us full time in our Guidance Department. Mr Clark Sterley will be teaching 12th grade English. Mr Matthew Potter and Mr Marc LaCien will be teaching 10th grade Math and Global Studies, respectively. Dr Samantha Francis will be our new 9th grade Science teacher. Mrs Samantha Kubik joins us as the 6th grade Science teacher.
A number of staff will be moving into new roles in the building. Ms Sanders will serve as Vice Business Manager. Mrs Projovic follows her passion for Social Studies up to the 12th grade. Mr Kman, Ms Feitshans, and Ms Prasad all move up one grade, following their students from last year. Mrs Valdez will continue to serve as our attendance clerk, in addition to being our full-time front desk secretary.
As we continue to review and refine our use of technology in the school, we will strive this year more than ever before to assure that our tablets and computers are used to further our students’ academic performance. As such, students will find that their iPads are configured to meet the needs expressed by the instructors regarding software and program access.
Our Board of Directors welcomes Heather Cook as the new Parent Representative, replacing Dana McCue. Thank you to Dana for her years of service on the Board. Thank you to our Board for their continued support of our school.
We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished in three years. We continue to seek opportunities for growth and improvement. We strive to be a model of project-based, technology-rich, student-centered instruction.
Thank you for choosing Hammond Academy. We recognize that you have a choice when it comes to your child’s education. We are here to provide your child an education unlike any other in Northwest Indiana.
Here’s to another HASTastic year!
